Gloeocapsa magma is the algae responsible for the dark streaking on Central Texas roofs. Pressure washing a roof strips protective granules and shortens its life. We use the low-pressure soft wash method recommended by shingle manufacturers: the solution does the work, the roof gets rinsed, and the growth is killed at the root instead of just being knocked loose.
